NEWS AND EVENTS
Next Sunday will be the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B.
Summer Fayre This will take place on Saturday 9th June in Bourton-on-the-Water. Local events over the Diamond Jubilee weekend meant that we could not have our usual day. This is the Saturday in the half-term holiday week, so Bourton should be busy with visitors. The list asking for help with the stalls is now up. Let’s get this filled in quickly so that we can move on to the next stage of planning.
Ash Wednesday falls on 22nd February. Masses will be: 10.00 a.m. at Stow (Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite) 7.00 p.m. at Bourton (Ordinary Form). Both Masses will include the Imposition of Ashes.
Ash Wednesday is a Day of Fasting and Abstinence. Abstinence (as also on every Friday) is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of Abstinence no meat is allowed. Fasting is observed by all 18 years of age and older who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength may be taken, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Parents should ensure that even those who are still too young to be bound by the laws of fasting and abstinence are trained to have a true appreciation of penance.
Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes This will be from Friday 24th to Friday 31st August. For more information contact Deacon David Wakefield, details on the poster.
A new Rector for the Anglicans at Stow The Rev. Martin Short will be inducted as Rector at St Edward’s on Sunday 19th February at 4.00 p.m. Our parishioners are invited to attend.
Co-workers of Mother Teresa Group need knitting wool. Odd balls, old or new, would be appreciated. Contact Imelda (01451-833572).
